
The Cooktown and Cape York Peninsula Visitor Information Centre is located in the Nature's Powerhouse facility in the historic Botanic Gardens on Walker Street in Cooktown.
The facility features a botanical art exhibition in the Vera Scarth-Johnson Gallery, the Charles Tanner Wildlife of Cape York Queensland Museum Exhibition displaying a variety of endemic Cape York fauna featuring a popular snake display, a Book and Gift Shop, Vera's Café with a balcony overlooking the Botanic Gardens, and the accredited Visitor Information and Booking Centre.

The VIC is the most northerly accredited visitor information centre on the east coast and provides comprehensive visitor information seven days a week including accommodation and tours reservations.
The facility also hosts a wide range of community events and activities including concerts, nature presentations, educational programs and walking trails and tours in the Botanic Gardens. Guided walks of the Botanic Gardens depart from the VIC every Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the peak tourist season. Group tours must be pre-booked.
