Description

There is something therapeutic about exploring the natural environment on horseback. Escape the everyday as we ride between two natural wonders of the world - the pristine Daintree Rainforest on one side and the Great Barrier Reef on the other.

Locally owned and operated, Wonga Beach Horse Rides operate horse trail rides in one of the world's most scenic settings. For two and a half hours, you can choose to walk, trot or canter along the golden sands and through the water of Wonga Beach followed by a gentle ride through the stunning Daintree rainforest and a tropical fruit orchard. There are two sessions a day - 8.30 a.m. for the early risers and 2.30 p.m. for those wishing to sleep in! Seasonally (from November to March) there is also a Sunset Ride which departs at 4.00 p.m. for a one and a half hour ride along the beach.

The rides can be enjoyed by all whether you are a beginner or skilled rider with the Wonga Beach team ensuring you are partnered with a horse that suitably reflects your riding ability. Boots, helmets and suitable clothing are provided on arrival and everyone undertakes a short lesson in horsemanship before getting underway!

Wonga Beach Horse Rides provide riding boots and helmets, so please ensure you wear jeans or long pants and bring socks, as well as your camera. Please note a AUD10.00 per person insurance levy applies on all rides. Transfers are available ex Port Douglas at AUD10.00 per person return.

How To Get There:
Wonga Beach Horse Rides are located two kilometres north of the Caltex Service Station at Wonga Beach, on the right hand side. They are located 30 minutes north of Port Douglas and 90 minutes north of Cairns.

Morning Beach and Rainforest Ride

On arrival at Wonga Beach Horse Rides you will be provided with boots, helmets and appropriate clothing (if required) and they will allocate you a horse to suit your level of riding experience.

You will ride along a scenic grassy headland on the way to beautiful Wonga Beach; this will take approximately 15 minutes. Upon arrival at the beach, you will break the group up into smaller groups according to riding experience. The experienced riders will go ahead and canter their horses, whilst intermediate and beginner riders will be provided with further tuition to trot their horses along the beach. If you would prefer just to walk and take a leisurely stroll along the beach that is fine too!
