Description

Wait-a-While Rainforest Tours is Cairns' original environmental and wildlife spotlighting tour company, founded in 1982.

Wait-a-While takes small groups into the World Heritage Rainforest to experience native wildlife in its natural habitat. They offer a unique experience to witness rare and endangered wildlife roaming freely in tropical rainforest. North Queensland is home to many animals that are not found elsewhere in Australia. There is something quite unique about watching a platypus swim undisturbed or seeing a possum climb freely in the canopy. Australian wildlife is mainly nocturnal so their tours have a night element and a later start to the day's touring. They venture up to the Atherton Tablelands where there is a much greater variety of wildlife such as possums, platypus, birds, snakes, frogs, kangaroos (big/small or rare tree kangaroos), and flying foxes. Their wonderful naturalist guides delight all with their enthusiasm.

Other Information

Disabled:
Currently the scheduled Rainforest Wildlife Tour can cater for one disabled wheel-chaired person per tour by prior booking only (days may be subject to access to suitable points on the trip which may vary according to weather, permits and wildlife habits at the time). Under a Private Charter booking they can design a wildlife orientated day to suit disabilities but due to the nature of the tour, content may vary from person/tour to tour. Please contact the operator for further information.

Child Guest Information

In general these tours are not suitable for young children or people who cannot act in a sensible and appropriate adult-like manner - wildlife spotting requires personal control over movement and noise and most children have too much energy for serious wildlife spotting!

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation fee is 100 per cent of cost for cancellation three days or less before scheduled tour departure.

Entity Restrictions

Due to limited storage space on vehicles bring minimum personal effects. A change of clothes to long sleeve shirts, trousers (pants) and closed toe shoes (trainers, walking boots, pumps) strongly advised for cooler higher altitudes and walking on tracks. Most of the tours visit remote locations and therefore those who may have a health condition and may need urgent specialised medical treatment should seriously consider the suitability of these tours where at some stages during the trip immediate medical treatment is limited to first aid only. Guests should re-confirm pick-up times and points 24 to 36 hours prior.

General Comments

They do not feed or encourage the native wildlife and do not tolerate harming the wildlife or environment by anyone.
