Help combat a hidden killer of endangered marine turtles!
One-day volunteers are needed to join a 'Turtles in Trouble' team to study the endangered sea turtles on North Stradbroke Island. Help contribute to urgent research on the impact of marine pollution on turtles and the cause of death of turtles found. Learn about the threats facing endangered sea turtles and survey the beach, sort, and remove rubbish to reduce the risk to local turtles.
... moreYou will spend the morning in the lab assisting with the dissection of a dead turtle to analyse the content that have contributed to the turtle's death. Then, you will survey the shoreline for waste, record, and catalogue the results and collect and remove any waste that could wash back into the ocean and harm animal populations.
The day starts at 7:30am and finishes at 5:30pm. The cost for the day includes ferry transfers to and from the island, buffet lunch, activities for the day as well as a contribution towards the science and research.
2012 team dates are May 18, October 19 and November 20.

One Day Teams commencing at 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Fee contributes to ferry ride and research.
The project will be carried out in almost all weather conditions including rain so please be prepared for working outside no matter what the weather report says. Strong winds or bad weather may prevent teams from working on and around the Island in which case other activities will be arranged.
You need to bring with you sunscreen, shoes that you don't mind getting wet, a change of shoes for working in the lab and a hat. Please note: it is possible that clothes will get wet particularly the bottom of pants. Please bring a spare set if you think you will be uncomfortable.
