Description

The Valley Rattler operates historic steam train tours through the scenic Mary Valley every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday and a Railmotor tour every Tuesday morning. The Rattler's spectacular journey begins at historic Gympie Railway Station which was built in 1913. Today, the station includes a refreshment room which is open Tuesday to Sunday, a model train display and a souvenir shop.

Full Day steam tours depart every Wednesday and Sunday. The first stop is at Kandanga Station where a selection of local produce is available. The train then travels onto Imbil for a lunchtime stop. On the return journey the train stops at Dagun Station to savour local wines and cheeses.

Half day steam tours depart every Saturday and travel to Amamoor and Dagun Stations. Marvel at the splendour of the stations, restored to capture the original character of the early 1900's. Enjoy arts and crafts, wine and cheese tastings and local produce.

The Red Rocket Railmotor departs every Tuesday morning and travels to Amamoor Station where you have time for morning tea and a stroll through the craft shop.

How To Get There:
The Valley Rattler is located at the historic Old Gympie Railway Station, Tozer Street, Gympie. To get to The Valley Rattler venue, simply follow the directional road signs when entering Gympie from either the north or from the south of the Bruce Highway. Gympie is situated one hour north of the Sunshine Coast, and one hour south of the Fraser Coast.

Restrictions:
Please Note: Heritage Carriages will be hauled by a C17 Steam Locomotive unless fire restrictions apply or the locomotive is undergoing essential maintenance. In these rare circumstances, a substitution will be made.

Red Rocket Railmotor Tour

This short tour on our Red Rocket Railmotor No. 76 will commence at Old Gympie Station at 9:30 a.m. then wind its way through the beautiful Mary Valley to Amamoor Station where you will have time for morning tea and a stroll through the craft cottage before arriving back at Gympie at 11:30 a.m.

Full Day Steam Train Tour

Full Day steam tours depart every Wednesday and Sunday. The steam train departs Gympie at 10.00 a.m. The first stop is at Kandanga Station where a selection of local produce and arts and crafts stalls are available. The train then travels onto Imbil for a lunchtime stop. At Imbil there is the Railway Hotel or two cafes where you can purchase lunch. They can also cater for a Fettlers Lunch (AUD11.50 per person) which includes cold meats and salads in a takeaway container that you can eat at one of the picnic tables in Imbil. The Fettlers Lunch needs to be ordered and paid for 24 hours in advance. On the return journey the train stops at Dagun Station to savour local wines and cheeses. The train arrives back at Gympie at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and 4:00 p.m. on Sundays.
