The award winning Cairns Tropical Zoo is located on the Captain Cook Highway at Palm Cove, just 20 minutes north of Cairns. The zoo is six hectares of tropically landscaped gardens featuring a natural habitat displaying Australia's unique animals and some international exotic animals. During the day visitors have the opportunity to 'Cuddle a Koala', a large python, or a small crocodile (extra cost applies and includes a top quality souvenir digital photograph). This is a great place to get close to the animals during the fantastic wildlife presentations which are all included in the entry price. Hand feed kangaroos and wallabies and visit one of Australia's best reptile displays.
The daily program features entertaining and educational presentations. Enjoy the only Snake Show that features the world's most venomous snake; be amazed at the keeper 'hand feeding' giant saltwater crocodiles, and see Queensland's first Free Flight Bird Show featuring many species of birds including eagles.
The Zootastic 5 experience is their small group exciting interactive tour. Feed, pat, hold and take photos with five favourites. This includes a souvenir photo with a koala. Minimum age 10 years. Must be booked the day prior.
Children are welcome. Entertaining and informative opportunity for them to get close to kangaroos, ducks, snakes, and crocodiles, wombats, dingoes, birds and more - all in safety for both animals and children. Children must be accompanied by parent/guardian/responsible adult at all times.
Disabled/wheelchair access to all areas of the zoo. Disabled Toilets.
Two licensed cafes - The Koala Cafe and The Outback Cafe - on site. The Koala Cafe is ideal for independent travellers and small groups. The menu is delicious and varied. The Koala Cafe seats 120 people in a delightful setting. The Outback Cafe is ideal for large groups enjoying their 'Big Aussie Barbecue'.
Their only restriction is that visitors must not jeopardise the health and welfare of the animals in any way by unauthorised feeding or handling. Visitors so doing will be removed forthwith (or fed to the crocodiles).
There are many informative presentations on Australian wildlife. Cairns Tropical Zoo offers the chance for visitors to cuddle a koala. You can also hand feed a kangaroo and other wild life at the Zoo.
The Koala Cafe is also on-site. Enjoy a delicious breakfast on the deck - and watch koalas enjoying theirs (different menu - different tables!). The Koala Cafe is ideal for individual visitors and groups. It is licensed and presents a very tasty selection of snacks, breakfast and lunch menus.
For larger groups they can also cater for you in their 'Outback Restaurant' - ideal for groups of 100.
Sorry no pets allowed as they do not mix with the native animals.
