Free Entry - Entry Information
This walk, also known as the Rex Creek circuit, is in the Mossman Gorge section of Daintree National Park, which is part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Along this circuit there are views of Manjal Dimbi plus an access point to Wurumbu Creek. Signs provide information on rainforest plants and their uses by the Kuku Yalanji people for food, medicine and materials.
Over millions of years, the Mossman River has carved a steep-sided valley from the upper reaches to the coastal lowlands. Through this valley, crystal clear water cascades amongst large granite boulders that have been washed down from the hills during times of heavy flood.
A number of picturesque strangler fig trees can be seen along the track and the rich lowland rainforest provides a home for variety of rainforest animals including the brilliant, metallic blue Ulysses butterfly and Boyd's forest dragons.
This loop track is accessed from the River Circuit Track via a suspension bridge over Rex Creek.
Be aware that stinging trees are found alongside many walking tracks, and have large, heartshaped leaves with serrated edges. Do not touch this plant as it may result in a very painful sting. If you are stung, seek medical advice.
It is dangerous to enter the river due to swift current, flash flooding, cold water and slippery rocks.
The area in which Daintree National Park is located has one of the wettest climates in Australia. During the wet season, from December to April, there are heavy, frequent downpours. So if visiting during this time, be prepared and take adequate clothing.
The cooler and drier months, from May to September, are the best time to visit.
