Take the fastest trip to one of the best dive sites in Australia, the SS Yongala Wreck. In approximately 30 minutes, Yongala Dive will transport you to the dive of your dreams - experience giant Queensland gropers, huge marble rays, schools of giant trevally and barracuda, sea snakes, turtles and much more - it's a dive you will never forget!

The SS Yongala lies within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, only 12 nautical miles from Yongala Dive's base at Alva Beach in Queensland. She sank in 1911 with the loss of all aboard, creating one of Australia's most intriguing maritime mysteries as she lay undiscovered for more than half a century. Lying in 14 to 28 metres of water and over 100 metres long it is one of the largest and most intact historic shipwrecks in Australian and provides an exciting adventure for divers due to its coral encrusted structure, the depth and the incredible array of marine life.

Yongala Dive also has an onsite dive lodge to make your experience every cosier, so dive and stay and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of Alva Beach.

Cancellation Information:
A full refund will be provided if a trip is cancelled by Yongala Dive due to unsuitable conditions. No refunds will be provided for cancellations by passengers within 48 hours of departure (seven days during high season September to January inclusive) (including no shows). Seasickness or inability to dive does not warrant a refund, please ensure you have travel insurance to cover such events.

Further Details:
Sea conditions may be choppy due to the location of the wreck and moderate currents can be experienced. Please bring appropriate medication if you suffer from sea sickness.

How To Get There:
Travelling north: from the main street in Ayr, turn left at the roundabout at the Queens Hotel into Edward Street, then right at second roundabout into Burke Street. Continue on for approximately 16 kilometres to Alva Beach, then take the first left into Narrah Street, until you will see sign for 'Yongala Dive'. Dive Shop is last on the left.
Travelling south: as you come to Ayr, turn left at the roundabout into Burke Street and continue on for approximately 16 kilometres to Alva Beach, take the first left into Narrah Street, you will see the sign for 'Yongala Dive' left. Dive Shop is last on the left.

Opening Hours:
Check-in for accommodation is 12.00 p.m. and check-out 10.00 a.m. Check-in for diving is 7.30 a.m. daily and finishes around 3.30 p.m., although confirmation will be given on call day prior to travel.

Tariff Information:
Confirmation - passengers must phone the Dive Shop between 3.30 p.m. - 5.00 p.m. on day prior to departure to confirm departure details and weather conditions. Departure times may vary due to tides/sea conditions.
Environmental Management Charge (EMC) and mooring fees are an additional AUD19.00.

Yongala Wreck Trip - 1 Day, 2 Nights Dormitory Accommodation

Yongala Dive offers the fastest trip to one of Australia's top dive sites, the historic S.S.Yongala Wreck. The adventure commences off the beaten track with a Four Wheel Drive from the remote Alva Beach (100 kilometres south of Townsville) and a tractor assisted boat launch followed by a 30 minute trip in their 10 metre rigid inflatable boat to the dive of your dreams. Experience giant Queensland gropers, huge marble rays, schooling barracuda, sea snakes, turtles and much more. It's a dive you will never forget! Snacks and drinks are provided and after the dive you will experience an 'Aussie' barbecue whilst relaxing and reflecting on your day. Numbers are limited to 12 passengers to ensure a more enjoyable and personalised service. Divers with under 20 logged dives will be accompanied by their experienced crew to ensure a safe and memorable dive, Open Water divers will need to undertake Deep Dive Training or upgrade to the PADI 'Deep' Adventure Dive with an instructor to enable them to take this dive.

Yongala Divers Lodge - Dormitory Room

Dormitory accommodation is available at the Yongala Dive Lodge either in six-bed (with air-conditioning) or four-bed dormitories. The boutique Queenslander, which has modern decor and is well looked after, is situated right at Alva Beach, on-site for your dive and only minutes from the Beach in a tranquil and relaxed setting.

Yongala Wreck Trip - Two Day, Two Nights

You will have a unique experience as you travel by four wheel drive to the beach and an exhilarating ride to the wreck on the 10 metre rigid inflatable Yongala Express. Snacks and drinks will be provided on the vessel and after the dive you will experience an 'Aussie' barbecue whilst relaxing and reflecting on your day. Numbers are limited to 12 passengers to ensure a more enjoyable and personalised service. Divers with under 20 logged dives will be accompanied by their experienced crew to ensure a safe and memorable dive or Open Water divers will need to upgrade to the PADI 'Deep' Adventure Dive with an instructor to enable them to take this dive. Yongala Divers Lodge - Queen Room

Sleep in that little bit longer or go for a walk on the beach before your day's diving begins. Yongala Diver's Lodge is the closest accommodation to the dive site. Less than an hour from your bed (a 10 minute drive down Alva Beach, 30 minute fast and fun ride to the dive site) and you're ready to have the dive of your life.

Accommodation is available at the Yongala Dive Lodge in the private Queen Room, which sleeps two people in a comfortable Queen Bed. The boutique Queenslander, which has modern decoration and is well maintained, is situated right at Alva Beach, on-site for your dive and only minutes from the Beach in a tranquil and relaxed setting. Kitchen and barbecue facilities are available, together with a large dining area, lounge, sun room and outside eating areas.

Price includes: Linen, breakfast, pick-up and drop-off (at allotted times).
