Be ready to be awed by what awaits you on this walk in Carnarvon Gorge National Park, as The Art Gallery contains some of the finest Aboriginal rock art in Australia.
Just 5.6 kilometres from the trailhead, at the junction of Kamoloo Creek, a signposted access track leaves the main walking trail upstream of crossing number 10, providing a gentle climb to the escarpment base where the site is located.

This extensive gallery contains more than 600 stencils and 1300 engravings. Aboriginal rock art on the sandstone overhangs is a fragile reminder of the Aboriginal people who used the gorge for thousands of years for ceremonies and rituals.

Walk Hints
Take care if swimming at the Rock Pool, never dive or jump into the water. Take all rubbish out of the park, there are no bins provided. Basic groceries, ice and gas for cooking are available every day from Takarakka Bush Resort and Carnarvon Wilderness Lodge. The closest service stations are Rolleston and Injune.
In summer, daytime temperatures can exceed 40 degrees. Winter daytime temperatures average around 20 degrees but can drop to a frosty zero degrees overnight.

The cooler months of the year from April to October are the best times to visit The Art Gallery at Carnarvon Gorge National Park. Highlights along this trail include: aboriginal rock art, cabbage tree palms, ancient cycads, lush gorges, clear-flowing creeks and towering sandstone cliffs.
The walk is approximately 10.6 kilometres and is of moderate difficulty. It should take approximately three to four hours to complete the walk. The Art Gallery Trail heads west from the National Park Visitor Area along the main gorge track.
Take care if swimming at the Rock Pool, never dive or jump into the water. Take all rubbish out of the park, there are no bins provided. Basic groceries, ice and gas for cooking are available every day from Takarakka Bush Resort and Carnarvon Wilderness Lodge.
How To Get There:
Carnarvon Gorge is between Roma and Emerald.
From Roma, drive north 90 kilometres to Injune then a further 160 kilometres along the Carnarvon Highway. From Emerald, drive south 65 kilometres to Springsure then east 70 kilometres to Rolleston, and a further 61 kilometres to the Carnarvon turnoff.
