Description

Be taken on a journey steeped in heritage, ancient culture and traditions.

A "must do" for every visitor to Mossman Gorge are the Indigenous guided Dreamtime Walks, conducted by the local Indigenous people. Ngadiku (Nar-di-gul) meaning stories and legends from a long time ago in local Kuku Yalanji language, takes visitors on a journey along private, easy graded tracks, visiting special places and culturally significant sites, past traditional bark shelters and over meandering cool rainforest streams.

Children:
Children will find the Dreamtime Walks and educational tour as well as learning about the local Kuku Yalanji people. Special family rates on all Dreamtime Tours. School Groups welcome

Disabled:
They have special areas on their Eco Shuttle buses which allow for wheelchair access. Ramps also available. In the national park the platform walk is wheelchair accessible

Access Tour

All tours start from the Mossman Gorge Centre where you board the Eco Shuttle bus. This is also the area that the Eco Shuttle bus leave from on a regular basis to the National Park and return. They run around every 15 minutes

Departure Point

All Ngadiku Dreamtime Walks leave from the Shuttle stop via the Art Gallery at the Mossman Gorge Centre


Dreamtime Gorge Walk

Indigenous Dreamtime Walk

You are welcomed with a traditional 'smoking' ceremony that cleanses and wards off bad spirits. The walk then meanders through stunning rainforest and takes in traditional huts or humpies. Your experienced interpretive Indigenous guide demonstrates traditional plant use, identify bush food sources and provide an enchanting narrative of the rainforest and their special relationship with this unique tropical environment. A stop at 'the Beach', gives you the opportunity for a refreshing swim in this water hole, where your guide demonstrates traditions like making bush soaps and ochre painting. At the end of the tour enjoy traditional bush tea and damper.

Dreamtime Legend Walk

Dreamtime Story telling

The tour gives visitors a more intimate look into the culture, spirituality and traditions of the Kuku Yalanji people and their unique connection with this ancient land. Your experienced local Indigenous guide will share dreamtime legends, demonstrate traditional plant use, identify bush tucker and explain the history of cave paintings.

Begin with traditional welcome 'smoking' ceremony that cleanses and wards of bad spirits. Under the towering canopy of the rainforest you're guided through a sacred ceremony site, and past traditional shelters all the while discovering its unique and diverse flora and fauna.

As the track meanders through the lush tropical rainforest the gentle rhythm of clap sticks and the haunting sound of a clap sticks, an Indigenous performance awaits as you turn the corner to the majestic rock amphitheatre. Dwarfed by the towering rainforest and the ancient Kauri Pine Tree, the journey continues down to the creek where you'll have an opportunity for a refreshing swim. Here your guide will explain the significance of the Gorge to the Yalanji people and demonstrate traditions like making bush soaps and ochre painting. At the end of the tour enjoy traditional bush tea and damper.
