Description

Nandroya Falls circuit is part of a network of walks in the Palmerston section of Wooroonooran National Park, an integral part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Its fertile basalt soils and extremely wet climate support a particularly rich form of rainforest and spectacularly large trees can be seen along the track.

At Nandroya Falls, Douglas Creek drops in a narrow, uninterrupted, 50m fall from a basalt parapet. Soon afterwards, the water takes a second tumble, this time shorter but wider. In this damp area, ferns and mosses flourish.

The picturesque circuit walk starts from Henrietta Creek camping area. From here it is 2.3 kilometres to the falls by the shortest route. The track soon divides. The branch on the left leads directly to Nandroya Falls, a distance from here of 1.7 kilometres. It winds along the upper valley of Douglas Creek, passing the pretty, 10 metres high Silver Creek Falls on the way. The right-hand branch is a longer 3.5 kilometres route to the falls. Those wishing to do a circuit walk can return by the alternative route.

Walk Hints

The Nandroya Falls Circuit begins to the west of the Henrietta Creek camping area. You can either cross the creek or walk along the highway and across the bridge to reach the trackhead.

The track has been recently upgraded and is well formed with gentle grades. It can be walked separately or as part of a longer walk from Henrietta Creek to Tchupala Falls Trackhead and possibly on to Crawfords Lookout and the North Johnstone River.

Wear a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent to protect yourself from leeches. Take plenty of drinking water.

Daytime temperatures and humidity can be high at any time of the year and nights can be very cool. Please carry suitable clothing to accommodate all extremes.

Further Details:
To ensure your visit is fun and comfortable, try to visit between May and October when the weather and track conditions are at their best. The Nandroya Falls Circuit features: picturesque waterfalls, clear-flowing streams and ancient rainforests. The track is a six kilometre full circuit with a moderate degree of difficulty and will take approximately three to four hours to complete. Unfortunately leeches, common after rain, can be a nuisance. Look out too for stinging trees. The track starts from a footbridge over Henrietta Creek at the west side of the camping area.

How To Get There:
Wooroonooran National Park (Palmerston section) is situated on the Palmerston Highway, midway between Innisfail and Millaa Millaa (33 kilometres west of Innisfail or 25 kilometres east of Millaa Millaa). The series of connected walks near the Palmerston Highway can be found between Crawfords Lookout on the eastern edge and Henrietta Creek, 5.5 kilometres west toward Millaa Millaa.
