Birds are plentiful early morning and this walk can be enjoyed all year round. Walk early morning or late afternoon to avoid the crowds and midday sun. Lake Wabby Track highlights include: freshwater lake, swimming, gigantic sandblow and woodland vegetation. The track is an easy 3.1 kilometre walk which takes about one and a half to two hours.
When visiting Lake Wabby Track wear sturdy footwear, sunscreen and a hat and avoid walking in the hottest part of the day. Carry sufficient drinking water. Do not dive into the lakes, or swim in the ocean. Be Dingo safe; follow the guidelines given in brochures and on signs. The Ridge Track can be accessed from Cornwall's Break Road signposted from the Eastern Beach, north of Eurong.
How To Get There
Fraser Island is about 300 kilometres north of Brisbane and 40 kilometres east of Hervey Bay and Maryborough. The island can be easily accessed from either Rainbow Beach or Hervey Bay. For detailed information, refer to the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service National Park web pages.
