Description
At around 1300 metres above sea level, Kahlpahlim Rock is the highest point on the Lamb Range. The sheer size of the rock and the views over the Davies Creek catchment are impressive.
The trail ascends steeply along a former logging track before passing through rainforest, featuring magnificent blue kauri pine trees, and crossing two small creeks. Listen for calls of tooth-billed bowerbirds that loudly mimic the songs of other birds. After leaving the rainforest, the trail travels steeply through dry forest of casuarina and banksia trees before coming to a junction 4.4 kilometres along the trail. Walk one kilometre along the right-hand trail to reach the enormous granite boulders of Kahlpahlim Rock. For your safety do not venture past the boulders and stay on the walking track at all times.

Only experienced walkers should tackle the trail to Kahlpahlim Rock.
You will need a permit to drive into the state forest if you wish to do this walk.
Be well prepared for this long day walk. And beware, the track is sometimes not well marked and hard to follow.Some local knowledge and a map are helpful. It is very steep and slippery when wet. The alternative return route along the Ridge trail is less steep and less diverse.
Take drinking water and wear a hat and sunscreen.
Best Time To Go
The best time to visit is during the dry season, May to November. Be prepared for cool weather in winter.

How To Get There
Davies Creek and Dinden national parks are on the Atherton Tableland. From Cairns, travel towards Kuranda via the Kennedy Highway. After passing the Kuranda turn-off, travel a further 21 kilometres before turning left on to Davies Creek Road. This gravel road is corrugated and unsuitable for caravans and conventional vehicles. Dinden camping area is 10 kilometres along Davies Creek Road. The start of the Kahlpahlim Rock trail is just past the camping area, on Davies Creek Road.

Davies Creek and Dinden national parks are pleasant year-round; however, the drier, cooler months of May to November are the best time to visit. Heavy rainfall can occur at any time, making access difficult.
