Description

The Gugigugi (Goo-ji-goo-ji) walk (37.5 kilometres) starts at the Henrietta gate pick-up point and travels through open forest and lush creek crossings. This walk crosses the Herbert River before reaching the Yamanie pick-up point.

On the first day of the Gugigugi Walk (19.6 kilometres) you will walk from the Henrietta gate pick-up point to the Stoney Creek campsite. Along the way you will pass Lemon Tree Gully, aptly named for the lemon tree that still bears fruit. Henrietta Creek is a great place to stop for a break before continuing on to the Stony Creek campsite

On the second day (18.7 kilometres) you can enjoy a pleasant walk through open forest along the high banks of the Herbert River. Keep your eyes and ears open for resident wildlife. Listen for the noisy chatter of scaly-breasted lorikeets or the deep, gruff call of a wompoo fruit-dove. Garrawalt Creek is a great place to stop for lunch.

The track is a difficult 38.3 kilometres long which takes approximately two day to complete.

The Gugigugi (butterfly) walk is remote and isolated. Walkers must be well prepared and responsible for their own safety. Consider your ability and the track conditions carefully before setting out. Be aware that estuarine crocodiles may be encountered in waterholes, creeks and rivers along the walk. Ensure you carry adequate drinking water. For a more enjoyable experience walk in the early morning.
