
Eco Barge Clean Seas Inc. operates the Marine Debris Removal Program for the Whitsunday Islands and coastlines. They offer volunteers a unique, hands-on conservation experience. You will spend a day picking up marine debris on the beaches and coastlines of the spectacular Whitsunday Islands.
The islands are located at the heart of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park in tropical North Queensland. The majority of the Whitsunday Islands are never visited by major tour operators.

You will spend time on the stunning blue Whitsunday waters, travelling on a commercial barge with a group of no more than 12 people. You will get the chance to wade to shore in tropical waters. You will enjoy good weather, lush scenery and a deeply rewarding, hands-on team experience. You will need to be relatively fit and will be provided with refreshments, a delicious buffet lunch and all safety and specialist equipment.

Departure Point
The Eco Barge departs from the boarding jetty at the Whitsunday Sailing Club in Airlie Beach. The Sailing Club is located off the Esplanade and Coconut Grove, on the Point at Airlie Beach.

Volunteering on the Eco Barge is free.

The experience involves:
A (weather dependent) day trip with a group of up to 12 people on an eight metre 'Eco' Barge that can land on the beach, access to remote tropical Whitsunday Islands and waters, a day picking up the trash in a tropical island paradise, a highly rewarding team experience.
Also the opportunity to make a visible difference to the marine and coastal environment of the world famous Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Islands, the chance to contribute directly to conservation of vulnerable marine animals such as turtles and dugongs, powerful insight into how people can work together to solve the environmental problems posed by plastics and other marine debris.
Buffet lunch, refreshments and all specialist equipment is provided.
