Description

The Binna Burra section of Lamington National Park is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, which includes the most extensive areas of subtropical rainforest in the world.

The Bellbird Circuit uses the first part of the Ships Stern track. You will pass through a small section of rainforest at first before the track leaves on the left. This now leads downwards past the junction of the ""Horse Track"" (a reminder of the days when horse-riding was a Binna Burra activity) and through more rainforest which changes to open forest and then eucalypt woodland near the cliff edges. The lookout gives good views of Ships Stern, Egg Rock, Turtle Rock and the Numinbah Valley.

This particular walk is very good for small children who want to experience the thrill of following a rainforest walk in the park, but caution is required near the cliffs of the lookout.

Further Details:
The altitude of Lamington National Park provides a great escape from the Summer heat, although winter walkers are rewarded with clear views and a lessened chance of rain and leeches. Highlights of the Bellbird circuit include: rainforest, open forest Eucalypt woodland and scenic views of Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area.
This track branches off the Ships Stern circuit and descends through rainforest and open forest before emerging suddenly at Bellbird lookout — a natural lookout (with no handrails) above a very high, sheer cliff. The land around this lookout and most of the track is not part of the national park — it belongs to Binna Burra Mountain Lodge.
From here you get an excellent view of Ships Stern, Turtle Rock, Egg Rock (Kurraragin) and Numinbah Valley. The circuit takes approximately one hour to traverse and is two kilometres in length. This track branches off the Ships Stern Track.
Be aware of leeches in summer, particularly after rain. The weather can change quickly so bring wet-weather gear and warm clothing. Please keep children under close supervision and keep well away from the cliff edge.

How To Get There:
Binna Burra is via Beechmont, about 95 kilometres or a one hour 30 minute drive from Brisbane, or 70 minutes from Broadbeach, about 38 kilometres to Beechmont via Nerang. From the north, take Pacific Motorway exit 34 and route 92 to Tamborine, and route 90 to Canungra then 18 kilometres to Beechmont. From Broadbeach, take the Nerang turn off from the Pacific Highway (exit 71) and follow the signs to Beechmont and Binna Burra. The final section of the 10 kilometres drive is very narrow.
