  • Gregory-Cannon Valley Road turnoff to Hydeaway Bay Drive turnoff

This leg of the journey winds through cane fields and farm land, crossing bridges and creeks. Once on Gregory-Cannon Valley Road, head north for approximately 13.5 kilometres, keeping an eye out for the next right turn onto Dingo Beach Road. Once on Dingo Beach Road, it is a further 24.5 kilometres to the Hydeaway Bay Drive turnoff.

  • Hydeaway Bay Drive turnoff to end of Gloucester Avenue

This six kilometre stretch of road takes you from sparse farmland into the beachside hamlet of Hydeaway Bay, where all house either front the beach or have a view of it from the hill. You will find little pathways to the beach, between the houses, spread out along this beachside stretch of road if you are ready for a swim already. A caravan park just on the outskirts, before you reach the beach, caters to campers and caravanners. Hydeaway Bay Drive turns into Gloucester Avenue along the beachfront. Continue along until you reach the cul-de-sac at the top of the rise.

  • End of Gloucester Avenue to Montes Reef Resort

From the top of Gloucester Avenue, at the end of the cul-de-sac, follow the dirt road along the coastline over "Oh My God Hill" and other quirkily named geographical features. The red ochre colour of the dirt road contrasts beautifully against the vivid aqua hues of the ocean, making for some excellent photographic opportunities. There are two small eco resorts on the beachfront here at Cape Gloucester, the first of which is Montes Reef Resort, the second, Cape Gloucester Eco Resort. Both are open for lunch and have cabin-style accommodation available. Note: while this is a dirt road, it is suitable for normal vehicles most of the time. After heavy rain, the road can become corrugated, and driving at a slow pace with caution is advised.

  • Hydeaway Bay Drive turnoff to Dingo Beach

Instead of turning left at the Hydeaway Bay Drive turnoff, continue straight ahead and head into Dingo Beach. The beach is long and sandy, there is ample parking, and enjoy a drink or meal at the Dingo Beach Pub on the corner.
