Description
Mount Surprise Gems is Far North Queensland's only fossicking information hub. Take a choice of tours or go alone and hire or buy your own equipment. See how gems are cut and set. There is plenty of information available covering the six gem and gold fossicking areas and the possibility of finding topaz, aquamarine, quartz, peridot, moonstone, agate, fluorite and gold is enormous.
Have some fun with the 'stake a claim' pits or try your luck with a bucket of wash. They'll show you what to do. There's plenty for all the family to do.
The licensed cafe is set amongst native gardens with giant games, and murals depicting the strong mining history of the region. Coffee is served from breakfast through to dinner with home made meals and treats always available. Plenty of jewellery, gifts and souvenirs are for sale.

How To Get There
Travel the Savannah Way (Gregory Development Road) from Cairns in a south-west direction for approximately 320 kilometres. Mount Surprise Gems is the first business on the left in Mount Surprise.
