Description

Experience a unique Queensland Natural Encounter on a nightly tour at Mon Repos during Turtle Season. From November to March every year, you can be witness to one of the true wonders of the natural world at Australia's best known and most accessible sea turtle rookery, just 15 kilometres from Bundaberg and five minutes from Bargara.

Your turtle encounter begins at the Mon Repos information centre, with displays telling the story of the turtle's amazing survival and the conservation efforts of the dedicated staff, volunteers and the Bundaberg community. Rangers will then guide groups down to the beach to witness the turtles lay their eggs or hatchlings emerge from their nests - you may even be invited to help relocate a turtle's nest or lead the hatchlings to the ocean.

Turtle season will be extended through until Monday 9th April 2012, Tours from the 26/03/2012 until 09/04/2012 will be limited however to 200 persons per night.

Turtle watching is very popular and bookings are essential. Bookings can be made through the Bundaberg Visitor Information Centre by visiting the website or contacting the number below.

Disabled:
Disabled access is available via ramps to all parts of the Information Centre and the beach. A beach wheelchair is available for use, but must be booked prior to arrival. Disabled toilets are also available.

Further Details:
Tour numbers are set at 300 persons per night, groups of 60 are sent onto the beach once something is available for you to view, bookings are essential, your position in a group will be determined by the time and date of your original booking. Tours from the 26/03/2012 until 09/04/2012 will be limited however to 200 persons per night. All fees go towards continuing Turtle research as well as providing the centre displays and films shown. As turtles are wild creatures guaranteed sightings can never be promised. There is limited flash photography opportunities allowable at the Mon Repos site, please ask the Ranger for further details.

The tour will operate in almost all weather, including rain. Refunds are not granted if it rains on the evening of your booked tour. No lights are to be used on the beach and visitors with night vision problems may require the guidance of a friend to traverse the beach. Once in the park, the Department of Environment and Resource Management staff have full authority and you must listen to their directions at all times to minimise disturbing our marine friends. Please wear shoes for beach walking, insect repellant, rain jackets (if raining no umbrellas) and drinking water. A food van is onsite to sell hot food and cold drinks.

How To Get There:
Mon Repos is located 15 kilometres east of Bundaberg and five minutes from Bargara. From Bundaberg, follow the signs to Bargara along the Bundaberg-Bargara Road. At Bargara Primary School, turn left into Potters Road. At the end of Potters Road turn right into Grange Road and follow the signs to Mon Repos.
