Description

On the Atherton Tableland, Malanda Falls Conservation Park protects a small rainforest remnant. The falls on the North Johnstone River tumble over an ancient lava flow which originated from the Mount Hypipamee area, 15 kilometres away.

The rainforest walk is an impressive short walk through a small patch of towering rainforest. There is a platupus and turtle viewing platform by the creek.

The forest contains a high diversity of plant species, large trees and luxuriant growth forms. Near the start of the track stands a huge Queensland walnut with prominent buttresses.

Highlights of Malanda Falls rainforest walk include: remnant rainforest, spectacular waterfall, ancient tree, aboriginal culture and unique animals. This easy walk is approximately 1.5 kilometres long and will take about 30 minutes to complete.
Always carry water and wear a hat and sturdy footwear, and try to walk in the cooler part of the day. Treat all water before drinking. Be aware of stinging trees on track edges. Stay on walking tracks, as taking short cuts leads to erosion and adjacent areas may be unstable. Feeding wildlife can affect the health of the animals and alter the natural population balance.
