The Border Track is the backbone of the Lamington National Park walking track system and connects Binna Burra with Green Mountains. A number of other tracks and circuits lead from the Border Track, which is also a section of the Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk.

Enjoy dense rainforest and mountain streams and on a clear day, lookouts provide spectacular views of the Lamington wilderness area, the Tweed and Limpinwood Valleys and over the Mount Warning caldera towards Murwillimbah in northern New South Wales. During winter months, walkers are likely to hear the loud ringing call of the Albert's lyrebird.

Lamington is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, which includes the most extensive areas of subtropical rainforest in the world. The Border Track passes through warm and cool subtropical, and warm and cool temperate rainforest. These varied rainforest communities contain many ancient families of flowering plants: the bolwarra family (Eupomatiacea), pepperbush (Winteraceae), laurels (Lauraceae), lillypillies (Myrtaceae), and the southern beech (Fagaceae).

Mount Bithongabel, 12.6 kilometres from Green Mountains is the most accessible lookout. Large clumps of Antarctic Beech, a cool temperate species, grow at higher elevations, particularly between Mount Bithongabel and Mount Merino (half way to Binna Burra). Be aware of leeches in summer, particularly after rain. The weather can change quickly so bring wet-weather gear and warm clothing.

Keep to tracks and take care near cliff edges, at lookouts, on rocks and near waterfalls, especially in wet weather. Never stand on cliff edges while looking through a camera or binoculars. Many tracks have steep drop-offs beside them, so walk carefully. Keep children under close supervision-a steep drop-off may be just around the corner.
