Description

Hervey Bay has more to offer than whale watching and access to Fraser Island - they have some excellent scuba diving on one of the largest artificial reefs in the southern hemisphere. Composed of old shipwrecks over 30 years old, and ranging in length from 26 metres through to 46 metres, the reef is now home to a huge variety of marine life.

The Roy Rufus Reef lies in about 18 metres of protected sub tropical waters in the bay, between the main land and Fraser Island, making it suitable to all levels of diver, all year round.

This is some of the easiest and best wreck diving in South East Queensland.

Gone Diving is a certified Padi Dive centre offer scuba diving experiences for the beginner diver right though to Professional - dive trips and courses operate seven days per week.

How To Get There:
To get to the Urangan Boat Harbour you need to go down Boat Harbour Drive till you reach the T-intersection at the end. Once there turn left onto Esplanade, then take your first right on to Jetty Street. The Hervey Bay Boat Club will be in front of you and the boat harbour will be off to your right. Find a park and go.

Three Ships Double Dive

The Three Ships site lies in the middle of the Roy Rufus artificial reef. It comprises three ships that used to take logs off Fraser Island back in the logging days, and which were scuttled between 1969 and 1971.

The ships lie in an upright position on the bottom, in approximately 20 metres of water. They are set out in a triangle formation with steel pickets running between them at about four metres, making this site very easy to navigate.

The ships all have a good growth of corals and are home to a variety of fish and other marine life. There is also a chance to see or hear the whales over the winter months, but is very rare. Wow!

Shark and Turtle Adventure Dive at Reef World

This experience is designed to give you a chance to dive and interact with a variety of different marine life, even if you have never dived before. You will get a day pass into Neptunes Reef World, lunch and a 30 minute dive and some basic diving skills with a certified Padi Instructor in the Shark and Turtle enclosure.
