Shell-shocked: Australia after Armistice is an exhibition based on personal stories of immense power, illuminates these efforts. It depicts the grief of mothers whose sons died but had no known burial place - lost forever in foreign fields. Drawing on the National Archives' rich collection of war service records, this exhibition explores Australia's struggle with the lingering effects of war.
Experience the individuality of local town memorials - built by communities in an effort to come to terms with their loss and to honour those lives. Reflect on the impact of 'the war to end all wars' on Australia.
Learn more about Prime Minister Hughes' part in international relations when he insisted on being a signatory to the Treaty of Versailles. Shell-shocked: Australia after Armistice is a long overdue exploration of a time when a country became a nation.
