Description
The Kuranda Original Rainforest Markets are unique and diverse, deeply immersed in local history and culture. Situated in world heritage rainforest, these markets had their humble beginnings in 1978, created by a group of local artists and crafts people.
These markets put Kuranda on the map, cementing its reputation as an exotic rainforest destination for local and international visitors.
In 2006 the current owners began an ambitious undertaking to completely renovate the original market site. In keeping with the rustic atmosphere that the Original Markets were famous for, Malcolm and Ian McLeod have created a miniature village in the rainforest, with interesting curios at every turn, tropical gardens and colourful characters to make your visit memorable - Plus the newest attraction - Mini Golf in the Rainforest!
The Original Markets are principally available to artisans and craftspeople. You will find locally designed and produced fashions; hand crafted jewellery; indigenous artists.

How To Get There:
Travel to Kuranda Village by Kuranda Scenic Rail; Skyrail; tour bus; local bus or self drive. Kuranda Original Markets are located in the market precinct in Therwine Street (off the main street, Coondoo Street). Market entrances are located on the corner of Therwine and Thooree Streets and next to The World Famous Honey House.
