Description

It's like finding an archaeological dig before it's uncovered. Charleville Airport became part of the United States of America in 1940 when the site was handed over to the United States Military as a top secret site during World War II.

The area was a village in its own right with over 3,500 (the population of Charleville today) United States Servicemen serving in the area.

Many of the sites have been uncovered and you can join in for a guided convoy tour everyday. You will need your own car (four wheel drive preferably) for this experience and a small fee will apply. Bookings are essential and can be made at the Charleville Visitor Information Centre.
