Driving south on the Pacific Motorway from Brisbane, take the Beenleigh exit to the intersection in the heart of the town. Beenleigh, the southern centre of Logan City, was once the main regional centre of the district. Memorial Park on the corner of James and Crete Street is the location for Beenleigh's 'rising sun' memorial. Enjoy a coffee break in this vibrant town.
As you merge back onto the Pacific Motorway heading south near Yatala, you will find Australia's oldest rum distillery located on the banks of the Albert River. There are still sugar cane plantations in the district which supply the Rocky Point sugar mill.
The township of Pimpama is emerging as a rural residential area. Its war memorial is co-located with a typical timber country church.
Travel along the Albert River through the picturesque cattle grazing and horse breeding country to Beaudesert. The Centre, in the former Beaudesert Shire Council chambers, is the heart of the art and craft activities of the Scenic Rim.
The Beaudesert War Memorial is in the town centre, close to Jubilee Park and the Historical Society Museum.
The road from Beaudesert to Boonah traverses lush grazing country fed by the Logan River and its tributaries and passes the new Wyaralong Dam.
The Boonah War Memorial is on the corner of Park Street and Yeates Avenue, just one street back from the funky shops on High Street.
The Scenic Rim region boasts numerous picnic spots, country style accommodation, camping areas and seven National Parks. The rugged mountains provide an amazing backdrop to any drive through the area. A drive west to Maroon passes the Maroon Dam where outdoor activities are the order of the day.
Maroon State School, established in 1891, is home to a soldier statue memorial.
Travel through the Moogerah Peaks to Aratula and up Cunningham's Gap towards Warwick, with a short detour to Glengallan Homestead.
The Warwick railway station has a WWI Honour Board and an interpretation sign referring to Prime Minister Billy Hughes' attempt to gain support for conscription in November 1917.
There are two war memorials in Palmerin Street Warwick, one in the Town Hall foyer dedicated to the Rugby League footballers who served during WWI and the Memorial Gates to Leslie Park, nearby.
