Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park showcases the 'People of the Rainforest's' indigenous culture, allowing you to watch theatrical performances and engage in interactive activities to learn the traditional culture and customs of the Tjapukai people.

Tjapukai by Day - your cultural experience includes face painting on arrival, Didgeridoo A Journey Performance, Creation Theatre presentation, Tjapukai Dance Theatre cultural performance, bush foods and medicine show, Hunting Tools Cultural Talk, try fire making the traditional way in the Cultural Village, boomerang and spear throwing complete with a traditional tutorial. Complimentary welcome drink on arrival for lunch is available in their Boomerang Restaurant. Visit the Retail Gallery authentic aboriginal souvenirs before departing Tjapukai.

Tjapukai by Night - journey into dreamtime legend and discover the magic of Australia's ancient indigenous culture. A cultural evening full of entertainment with a scrumptious dinner. Immerse yourself in the traditions of the aboriginal people through traditional dances, music and story telling of dreamtime legends providing a powerful and personal insight into ancient Australian culture. Admission includes a complimentary welcome drink on arrival (standard beer, wine or juice), face painting on arrival, browse the Retail Gallery for authentic aboriginal souvenirs before departing.

Children:
All attractions within the park are suitable for children. Specially designed children's programs are available which include boomerang and face painting, Tjapukai Dance Theatre performance, Cultural Village experience, Creation Theatre performance, canoe rides and learning to play a didgeridoo. Tjapukai also cater for school groups, spouse and partner programs, team building programs and off site fully choreographed performances.

Disabled:
Disabled access to all theatres and activities, restaurant, and amenities. A wheelchair is available. Guide dogs for the visually impaired are allowed.

General Comments

As part of a tour, local bus service, self-drive, taxi, booked transfer. A Tjapukai Shuttle service is available from Cairns, Northern Beaches and Port Douglas. This service can be booked directly through the Tjapukai Sales and Reservations.

Within the Creation and Didgeridoo A Journey Show filming and photography are not permitted. Swimming is not permitted in the Lakes. All media visits must be accompanied by a member of Marketing Department.

The empowerment for the Tjapukai community extends even further. With the Aboriginal tribal councils receiving royalties and ensuring that the benefits of the park are conferred directly back to the people, the Bama, of the rainforest.

Tjapukai by Day is open from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. allowing you to experience every facet of this ancient culture; from the provocative History Theatre, the inspiring Creation Theatre and the original Dance Theatre to an interactive village camp where you can learn about bush food and medicine, didgeridoo playing and boomerang throwing.

Tjapukai By Day: For the first time an entire park has been dedicated to preserving and presenting authentic Aboriginal Culture with the aid of the most modern technology. Tjapukai boasts three theatres, a traditional camp, museum, retail gallery and a buffet restaurant. The park provides you with a meaningful glimpse of a rich and ancient culture.

Tjapukai by Night open from 7.00 p.m. for a prompt start at 7.30 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. is a specially crafted evening that offers you the chance to experience Tjapukai Aboriginal culture in the most powerful and personal way. From the moment you arrive, an evocative Aboriginal spirit vibrates through you. Rather than simply being a member of the audience, events such as the haunting spirit welcome and the lakeside fire ceremony will ensure that you feel like a privileged participant. The evening culminates in a sumptuous five star dinner, complete with a performance by the World Famous Tjapukai Dancers.

Fire explosions, spectacular special effects, music and dance as giant spirits come to life and take you on a Dreamtime journey. The evening finishes with a scrumptious buffet dinner and performances by the World Famous Tjapukai Dancers.

How To Get There

Access to Tjapukai can be made via public transport, coach, taxi or self drive. From Cairns Central Business District: Head north on Captain Cook Highway, until you reach the Smithfield roundabout. You will travel approximately 20 minutes from Central Business District depending on traffic. As you approach Smithfield roundabout you will see, approximately 400 metres before the roundabout, a Tjapukai tourist attraction road sign. Turn left at the Smithfield roundabout. Take the first right hand turn after the roundabout which is the entrance to Tjapukai. Car parking is free for all guests.
