The elaborate Palma Rosa rose up among the slab huts and shanties of a fast growing city of new and freed settlers in 1887. Originally built as a grand private home by notable Italian architect, Andrea Stombuco, Palma Rosa has seen many interesting inhabitants during its 120 years. It now serves as the Headquarters to Qld Branch of The English Speaking Union who welcomes the public for tours, hosts events and provides travellers' accommodation.
