A broad range of books, magazines, newspapers, and ephemera are acquired largely through legal deposit and websites are archived in Pandora. These materials as well as films and digital stories are available for viewing in the John Oxley Library Reading Room or online via State Library's catalogue OneSearch.

The John Oxley Library is located in South Brisbane which has ample public transport via bus, CityCat and Train. South Brisbane is also within walking distance from Brisbane City which is also accessible via public transport. There are also various car parks and ample on street parking for those driving.
