Fort Lytton is an important historic site, built in 1881 and used for the defence of Brisbane until the end of the Second World War. It is a wonderful opportunity to explore a typical nineteenth century fortress concealed behind grassy embankments and surrounded by a water-filled moat. The museum provides a comprehensive display and interpretation of important aspects of Queensland's military and social history, from 1879 through to the 1950s.
Children are welcome.
On Sunday and public holidays volunteer guides offer tours, sharing their knowledge and insights of Fort Lytton and the heritage it preserves.
Fort Lytton is located approximately 20 minutes drive from Brisbane City. Public transport is also available.
