Cairncross Corner is indeed a great place to stop at the top of the Blackall Range and houses the hidden gem of Art on Cairncross. Not a gallery of airs and graces, but certainly of style, visitors can peruse at their leisure and Jane Caraffi or Tony Gill will welcome you to share the artworks on display.
The diversity of works on display is considerable, but the common element is quality. Both emerging and well known artists at Art on Cairncross are predominantly locally based, which reflects the exceptional calibre of professional artists living and working in the region. A wonderful array of paintings and drawings in all media and a broad variety of subjects are complemented by some exquisite three-dimensional art. Sculptures, from sandstone, marble, bronze, ceramic and steel and combining elements like bronze, opal and wood are pure delights.
Exquisite hand-sculpted masks which are extravagant creations in leather or bronze and the exceptional porcelain pieces decorated in gold and lustres, all by internationally renowned and sought-after artists. Add in hand-blown glass, quirky ceramics and jewellery and there really is something to enthral everyone.
