Description
The Tullawallal circuit is located in the Binna Burra section of Lamington National Park. This stunning national park covers 20,590 hectares and boasts extensive walking tracks along the McPherson Range, which allow visitors to explore the area's forests, creeks and waterfalls.
Dramatic lookouts afford views over the Gold Coast, south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales. Lamington is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, which includes the most extensive areas of subtropical rainforest in the world.
... moreTullawallal contains the nearest small forest of Antarctic Beeches (Nothofagus moorei) to Binna Burra. The track passes through rainforest to the Coomera Seat Junction and on to the Tullawallal circuit to a small knoll on the Beechmont Range.
The beech forest has a very different structure to the surrounding rainforest and is very interesting to botanists. There is also a small memorial plaque to Gus Kouskos, one of the Lamington National Park's most well liked and respected overseers.

The altitude of Lamington National Park provides a great escape from the Summer heat, although winter walkers are rewarded with clear views and a lesened chance of rain and leeches.

General Comments
The Tullawalla circuit features rainforest, Antarctic Beech and Gondwana Rainforests of Australias World Heritage Area. Visit the most accessible cool temperate rainforest in Lamington and the closest patch of this forest type to Binna Burra. From the carpark entrance follow the Border Track clockwise for 1.9 kilometres, then branch right at the track junction and follow a short sidetrack to Tullawallal. From Tullawallal, return to the track junction, turn right and continue along the Loop track the circuit back to the Binna Burra carpark.
The Tullawalla circuit is five kilometres long, with an easy classification that should take between one and a half and two hours. Be aware of leeches in summer, particularly after rain. The weather can change quickly so bring wet-weather gear and warm clothing.
How To Get There
Binna Burra is via Beechmont, about 95 kilometres or 90 minutes' drive from Brisbane, or less than an hour from the Gold Coast via Nerang. Take the Nerang turn off from the Pacific Highway (exit 71) and follow the signs to Beechmont and Binna Burra.
