Description

Summit Track, Fitzroy Island National Park - A very steep service road (concrete wheel tracks) from the north-east end of Welcome Bay climbs through rainforest towards the lighthouse. A lookout on the windy north side of the island offers views of Green Island on a clear day. Follow the road for 1.6 kilometres where the Summit Track branches off to the right. Follow this 600 metre boulder-strewn track upwards through woodland to the summit. At the summit (269 metres) slabs of granite and windswept casuarina trees frame magnificent views over the island, surrounding reefs and mainland.
