Walk through low coastal scrub and sheltered cypress forest to the coloured sands at Rainbow Gorge on World Heritage Listed Fraser Island.
The highlight is the eerie lunar landscape of Kirra Sandblow where a spring-fed stream creates small sand formations and has exposed the underlying sandstone rock. This is an area that affords walkers a special opportunity to indulge in some creative photography, so don't forget the camera.

General Comments
Birds are plentiful early morning and this pleasant walk can be enjoyed all year round. Walk early morning or late afternoon to avoid the crowds and midday sun. Rainbow Gorge - Kirra Sandblow Circuit features: sand formations, sandstone rock and a spring-fed steam. The walk is an easy 2.1 kilometres and should take about an hour to complete.
Wear sturdy footwear, sunscreen and a hat and avoid walking in the hottest part of the day. Carry sufficient drinking water. Do not dive into the lakes, or swim in the ocean. Be Dingo safe; follow the guidelines given in brochures and on signs. Rainbow Gorge's entry point is located on the Eastern Beach, south of Happy Valley.
How To Get There
Fraser Island is about 300 kilometres north of Brisbane and 40 kilometres east of Hervey Bay and Maryborough. The island can be easily accessed from either Rainbow Beach or Hervey Bay. For detailed information, refer to the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service National Park web pages.
