The Mount Merino walk is located in the Binna Burra section of Lamington National Park. This stunning national park boasts extensive walking tracks along the McPherson Range, which allow visitors to explore the area's forests, creeks and waterfalls. ... moreLamington is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, which includes the most extensive areas of subtropical rainforest in the world. Mt Merino is reached by following the Border Track through subtropical and temperate rainforest, crossing the head waters and tributaries of the Coomera River including Bower Bird Creek. and Dragoon Bird Creek.
Coomera circuit track leads off to the right and shortly afterwards the Mount Hobwee circuit junction on the left. 100 metres further on is Yargabullang Lookout, providing wonderful views towards Mount Warning. The track continues to the an Antarctic Beech covered summit and a spectacular view of the Mount Warning caldera and the McPherson Range.

Best Time To Go
The altitude of Lamington National Park provides a great escape from the Summer heat, although winter walkers are rewarded with clear views and a lesened chance of rain and leeches.

General Comments
The Mount Merino Walking Trail has spectacular views, dense rainforest, Antarctic Beech, creeks and the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. Chakoonya lookout is about halfway along the Border Track between Binna Burra and Green Mountains. A short sidetrack 10 kilometres from Binna Burra leads to two lookouts; Beereenbano and Merino, with views over the Tweed and Limpinwood valleys. The track passes through areas of forest damaged during a severe storm in 1983.
The trail is approximately 21.6 kilometres long, with a moderate degree of difficulty and should take approximately eight hours. Be aware of leeches in summer, particularly after rain. The weather can change quickly so bring wet-weather gear and warm clothing. Mount Merino is halfway along the Border Track.
How To Get There
Binna Burra is via Beechmont, about 95 kilometres or a 90 minute drive from Brisbane, or 70 minutes from Broadbeach, about 38 kilometres to Beechmont via Nerang. From the north, take Pacific Motorway exit 34 and route 92 to Tamborine, and route 90 to Canungra then 18 kilometres to Beechmont. From Broadbeach, take the Nerang turn off from the Pacific Highway (exit 71) and follow the signs to Beechmont and Binna Burra. The final section of the 10 kilometres drive is very narrow.
