Just an hour from downtown Brisbane, Lake Wivenhoe is a spectacular water reserve, north-west of Brisbane. A visit to this scenic natural area offers a peaceful and tranquil outing complete with panoramic views of the lake.
Lake Wivenhoe provides a focus for quiet and relaxed land and water-based, family-style recreation. Only non-fuel powered boats are permitted and domestic animals are prohibited. A permit is required for camping, fishing and boating. Wivenhoe Dam was completed in 1985 and lake Wivenhoe is extremely good for fishing, boating, camping, picnics and swimming. SEQWater Education Centre (on the Esk side of Wivenhoe dam wall) has many facilities including toilets, bus/car parking, shelter sheds, barbecues, interpretive displays, information trail, lookout, conference centre and information sessions (bookings essential).
