Description

Just an hour from downtown Brisbane, Lake Wivenhoe is a spectacular water reserve, northwest of Brisbane. A visit to this scenic natural area offers a peaceful and tranquil outing complete with panoramic views of the lake.

Lake Wivenhoe provides a focus for quiet and relaxed land and water-based, family-style recreation. Only non-fuel powered boats are permitted and domestic animals are prohibited. A permit is required for camping, fishing and boating. Wivenhoe Dam was completed in 1985 and lake Wivenhoe is extremely good for fishing, boating, camping, picnics and swimming. SEQWater Education Centre (on the Esk side of Wivenhoe dam wall) has many features including toilets, bus/car parking, shelter sheds, barbecues, interpretive displays, information trail, lookout, conference centre and information sessions (bookings essential).

Cormorant Bay: General picnic area with bus parking available and features: electric barbecues, wood barbecues, toilet facilities, shelter sheds, picnic tables Walking trail and koala spotting.

Hamon Cove: shelter shed; barbecues and boat ramps.

Spillway Common: An unstructured area suitable for large groups such as social clubs or sporting clubs for an afternoons outing. Tentage may be erected for the purposes of such outings but no overnight camping is available. Other facilities include toilets; shelter shed; bus parking; canoe access to Brisbane River.

Logan Inlet: picnicking and boat launching area, shelter sheds; toilet facilities, gas barbecues, wood barbecues, a concrete boat ramp.

Captain Logan's Camp: A camping area with space for 57 unpowered van/tent sites, toilets and hot and cold shower facilities are available. Wood is provided, on-site camp manager.

Lumley Hill Camping Area: Adjacent to Captain Logan Camp, toilet and hot and cold shower facilities available. Wood provided. Provisions for large caravans.
