The Sunshine Coast means sun-drenched beaches, sparkling water and year-round swimming in temperate waters. On the northern end, you'll find Rainbow Beach - the gateway to World Heritage-listed Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island. You'll also find the dramatic coloured sand cliffs and kilometres of unspoilt, white sandy beaches and turquoise rolling surf as you cruise up Rainbow Beach in your 4WD.
The famous Noosa Heads has been a surfing mecca since the early 1960s and is a world renowned holiday destination. Its enduring popularity is built around its protected north facing beach linked by boardwalk to the nearby 477 hectare Noosa National Park.
Further south, you'll follow the coastline past the beachside villages of Sunshine Beach, Peregian Beach and Coolum - also popular with board riders and for their relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Maroochydore has long been a family favourite, with all types of accommodation close at hand from luxury resorts to caravan parks. Pass Alexandra Headland on your way to Mooloolaba, recognised as one of the Sunshine Coast's safest beaches. The area also features a vibrant dining precinct with al fresco cafes and restaurants as well as plenty of shops.
Caloundra hosts a number of popular beaches for all to enjoy, including Dicky and Kings beaches which are both popular for swimming and surfing. For calmer waters, Golden Beach and Bulcock Beach are perfect, protected by the northern end of Bribie Island, these spots are great for children. It's a popular spot for fishing as well as enjoying fish and chips by the sea.
All of the beaches along the coast are abundant with BBQ and picnic facilities and Surf Clubs are a traditional part of the coast's history with many clubs open to enjoy the view and cuisine.
