If fish had feet, the playful Clownfish of the Great Barrier Reef would trip over them in their eager rush to make your acquaintance. These delightful child-like characters will keep you amused with their tumbling antics and mischievous sense of play.
In stark contract, ‘snooty’ is the only word to describe their neighbours, the Angelfish. Immensely proud of their rich, vibrant colours, they are not impressed with your dull grey wetsuit and clumsy swimming style. As they saunter past, nose high in the air, they shoot you a look of pity and disdain.
These are just two of the colourful characters you’ll find on Queensland’s magnificent Great Barrier Reef. Seahorses, dolphins, manta rays, gropers and wise old sea turtles also call this fragile place home.
Aside from the tenants, the coral itself is a masterpiece of architectural wonder. The colourful hues and intricate shapes and patterns of the city of the deep make the reef a fascinating place to explore.
And explore you can, in a variety of ways in Tropical North Queensland, the Whitsundays, Townsville, Mackay and Central Queensland. Whether by scuba, by snorkel, by reef walk or glass-bottomed boat there’s a reef adventure waiting for you!
