As you dive beneath the surface of the crystal clear waters of the Coral Sea, an intriguing mystery is revealed. The wreck of the S.S. YONGALA lies before you. Sunk during a cyclone in 1911, the wreck lay undiscovered for more than half a century. It now hosts a rich and dazzling array of tropical fish and marine life and is rated one of the top 10 wreck dives in the world!
If you like your fish bigger, tastier, and preferably at the end of a line, you’re going to love Townsville! The waters surrounding the city are brimming with game fish, and avid anglers flock to the area to partake in the bounty.
Just outside of Townsville you can experience the wild thrill of white water rafting on the turbulent Tully River! For an even bigger thrill take a scenic flight and skydive over tropical islands and the magnificent deep blue Pacific.
In the Burdekin, join a tour of wetlands and sugar cane fields, exploring the intricacies of farm life. Out west, go panning for gold at Charters Towers or stay at a remote cattle station and participate in the muster.
