Sunshine Coast

Natural Encounters

  • Photos

Take a drive through the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and it won’t be long before you’ll be forced to stop by the side of the road to enjoy the breath-taking views. The scene-stealing Glasshouse Mountains are the headline act, and are ably supported by lush rainforests, mist-shrouded waterfalls, and spectacular flora and fauna.

Waddle with a wombat, cuddle a koala, or surf with a seal - on the Sunshine Coast it’s an animal-lovers delight! Home of Steve Irwin’s famous Australia Zoo, at the Sunshine Coast you can also get up close and personal with seals, sharks, stingrays, turtles and seahorses in a purpose-built underwater facility.

For a natural encounter with our native animals, head to Noosa National Park to see koalas and the rare black cockatoo. You may also be lucky enough to see dolphins and turtles in the clear blue waters fringing the park. And during the winter months you can watch the whales on their slow migration north.
