Canungra, nestled in the Gold Coast Hinterland, is known as one of the best places in Australia to hang glide. But if you’d prefer more view with less adrenalin, South East Queensland also offers hot air ballooning over the Scenic Rim and Lockyer Valley, or joy rides in a glider.

For adventures of a more earthly kind, the kids will get a buzz out of Australia’s largest ropes and adventure games course. Perhaps dirt bike riding or downhill mountain biking is more their style. Try your hand at rock climbing or abseiling, or explore the countryside from the back of a horse as you follow one of many picturesque country trails.

But for an adventure the whole family can enjoy, you can’t go past a fun farm stay or four wheel drive camping holiday at one of numerous National Parks in the area. Hire a boat, take the kids fishing and soak up the relaxed country atmosphere.
