Not far from the caves lie a group of reef-fringed islands surrounded by the clear sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean. Conditions for diving and snorkeling around these islands are superb, and also make for excellent sailing, game fishing and ocean kayaking.
Get to know the area aboard a pink amphibious transporter - one third bus, one third boat, and one third all terrain vehicle! Or maybe a thrilling tour on the back of a Chopper motorbike is more your style!
West of the coast lies a land steeped in ancient culture and mystery. Carnarvon Gorge National Park hosts stunning galleries of ancient Aboriginal rock art.
A little further east, you could strike it rich at the Sapphire Gemfields. Fossick by the creek, take an underground mine tour, and watch the gem cutters at work.
And for the avid angler, Central Queensland offers well-stocked inland lakes and dams, brimming with barramundi, bass and delicious red claw yabbies.
