Description
The Lower Ballanjui Falls track is located in the Binna Burra section of Lamington National Park. This stunning park covers 20,590 hectares and boasts extensive walking tracks along the McPherson Range, which allow visitors to explore the area's forests, creeks and waterfalls. Dramatic lookouts afford views over the Gold Coast, south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales.

Lamington is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, which includes the most extensive areas of subtropical rainforest in the world. The Lower Ballanjui Falls track uses part of the Ships Stern track as far as the bottom of Nixon Creek Valley.
The track descends sharply into the Nixon Creek valley through eucalypt forest and patches of rainforest, with good views from Koolanbilba and Yangahla lookouts. The track winds down through eucalypt forest and reaches the Lower Bellbird circuit junction where there are magnificent stands of flooded gum and a giant red cedar. The track to Lower Ballanjui Falls leads off to the right.

Be aware of leeches in summer, particularly after rain. The weather can change quickly so bring wet-weather gear and warm clothing.

The altitude of Lamington National Park provides a great escape from the Summer heat, although winter walkers are rewarded with clear views and a lesened chance of rain and leeches.

Highlights of the Lower Ballanjui Falls in the Binna Burra Section of Lamington National Park include: the lookouts; the waterfalls; and magnificent stands of flooded gum and red cedar Gondwana Rainforest of the Australia World Heritage Area.
A short side track branches off the Ships Stern circuit, 4.7 kilometres from the track's entrance. Follow this short track for 600 metres (one way) to the bottom of the falls. Return the same track.
Start your journey at Ships Stern circuit entrance and branch off this circuit to the falls.
The walk is classified as a Full Day Classification Four Walk. The Walk is of moderate difficulty.
How To Get There:
Binna Burra is via Beechmont, about 95 kilometres or a one hour 30 minute drive from Brisbane, or 70 minutes from Broadbeach, about 38 kilometres to Beechmont via Nerang. From the north, take Pacific Motorway Exit 34 and Route 92 to Tamborine, and Route 90 to Canungra then 18 kilometres to Beechmont. From Broadbeach, take the Nerang turn off from the Pacific Highway (Exit 71) and follow the signs to Beechmont and Binna Burra. The final section of the 10 kilometre drive is very narrow.
