Description
The Caves Circuit in the Binna Burra section of Lamington National Park starts beside the car park near the Information Centre.
The track passes through eucalypt forest and woodland with occasional rainforest gullies. Koalas are sometimes seen in the tree branches of eucalypts in this area.
There are wonderful views of the Coomera Gorge and a commemorative seat to Robert Collins whose efforts form the foundation on which Lamington National Park was created which now is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area.
The Kweebani Caves were created by wind and rain erosion and were used for shelter and cooking by the Aborigines. The track passes through these caves and then climbs through rainforest back to the summit of Mt Roberts (Binna Burra). In the rainforest are some immense red cedar trees (Toona ciliata).

The altitude of Lamington National Park provides a great escape from the Summer heat, although winter walkers are rewarded with clear views and a lessened chance of rain and leeches.
The Caves circuit features: rainforest, cedar trees, caves, wonderful views and spectacular scenery at Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area.
This circuit winds its way uphill from the information centre through open forest and rainforest to emerge at the Binna Burra Mountain Lodge road entrance. Alternatively, begin this circuit from the Binna Burra Mountain Lodge road entrance and return via Binna Burra Road. The walking track contains unstable surfaces, and rockfalls may occur on the walking track and in Kweebani Cave. For your safety, avoid lingering too long and view the cave from a safe distance. The track circuit provides excellent views into the Coomera Valley and hoop pines along the Darlington Range.
Take care when walking beside the bitumen road to return to the start of the circuit, especially on weekends when traffic is busy.
The Caves circuit is approximately five kilometres long and classified as moderate difficulty which means that it should take between one and a half and two hours to complete.
Take care when walking beside the bitumen road to return to the start of the circuit, especially on weekends when traffic is busy. A self-guiding brochure for this circuit produced by the Lamington Natural History Association is available at the national park information centre and the Binna Burra Mountain Lodge kiosk. Be aware of leeches in summer, particularly after rain. The weather can change quickly so bring wet-weather gear and warm clothing.
How To Get There:
Binna Burra is via Beechmont, about 95 kilometres or a one hour 30 minute drive from Brisbane, or 70 minutes from Broadbeach, about 38 kilometres to Beechmont via Nerang.
