Description
This track passes through spectacular rainforest, grassland eucalypt and bunya pine forest in Bunya Mountain National Park. Along the gently undulating climb, look for the local Mowbullan whitewood trees with their mottled green, white and grey bark.
See colourful noisy pittas searching for a snail meal on quiet early morning walks. Listen to the flocks of topknot pigeons feeding in the treetops or hear the loud call of the whipbird and the mournful cry of the catbird. In summer, pink flowers from the lacebark tree litter the forest floor. Stop for lunch on the grassy patch above Big Falls overlooking Barker Creek Gorge.

Ticks are active all year round. Reduce exposure to ticks by wearing insect repellent and check yourself carefully for ticks.
Boil or treat water for drinking or bring your own.
Avoid lingering under bunya pines between December and March. That is when the soccer-ball sized cones weighing up to 10kg fall from the tops of towering trees.
Avoid stinging nettles and giant stinging trees and leaves.
The Bunya Mountains have a cool climate and an annual rainfall of about 1000mm. Heavy fog and mists occur at any time of year and winter mornings can be frosty. Bring warm clothing, even in summer.

General Comments
The Barker Creek Circuit features abundant wildlife, diverse vegetation, gorge views and waterfalls. The circuit is approximately 10 kilometres long, of moderate difficulty and should take between three and four hours to complete. Ticks are active all year round. Reduce exposure to ticks by wearing insect repellent and check yourself carefully for ticks. Boil or treat water for drinking or bring your own. Avoid lingering under bunya pines between December and March.
How To Get There
The park can be reached via several routes. From Brisbane via Toowoomba: Take Ipswich Motorway and then Warrego Highway 138 kilometres west to Toowoomba. Continue 44 kilometres to Jondaryan and turn right towards the Bunya Mountains. Travel a further 65 kilometres through Maclagan, following directional signs to the Bunya Mountains. A section of the road is gravel. From Brisbane via Yarraman: Travel up the Brisbane Valley through Esk. Turn left to Yarraman then left again at Yarraman towards Toowoomba. 20 kilometres from Yarraman turn right to Maidenwell. At Maidenwell turn left to the Bunya Mountains. About 6 kilometres of the road is gravel.
