Commencing from one of the richest outback areas and home of the tune that unites Aussies around the globe - Waltzing Matlida - you travel via the Kennedy Developmental Road also known as the Min Min Way, across vast Mitchell Grass plains where once dinosaurs roamed. Through Middleton to Boulia, the heart of mysterious Min Min lights, the Kennedy Developmental Road meets the Donohue Highway, and the final leg of an outback journey that will indelibly etch experiences, never to be forgotten.

The entire Kennedy Developmental Road is bitumen suitable for two wheel drive vehicles. The Donohue Highway is recommended for 4 wheel drives.

Just because you are tracking through the outback does not mean you have to leave the comforts of home behind. All travelling this western route are well catered with a range of modern and comfortable facilities available at both Winton, Boulia, farm stays and an abundance of places to camp or caravan for a night.

From Boulia west, travellers should check road conditions before departure on the Donohue Highway. Advise someone of your travel itinerary, stay well left while driving over sand hills, pull off the road for road trains, beware of stock and unmarked causeways, and travel with adequate water and fuel in a mechanically sound vehicle at a safe speed. The best time for travel is from April to September. This land is harsh but the reward for safe travelling is spectacular scenery.
