Certification

In Queensland, certified divers need a current certification card and a current log book before being eligible to dive.

Certified divers who have not dived recently or who can't provide the required information may be asked to complete a supervised refresher dive to ensure their competency and safety. Dive operators may also ask certified divers to complete a simple medical questionnaire to check that their medical details have not changed.

In Australia, most dive operators are affiliated with PADI or SSI but qualifications from all major international diver training organisations are generally recognised.

Lost cards can be replaced by contacting the relevant dive accreditation association.

The following diver training certifications are generally considered to be the minimum equivalent certification level required to dive in Australia:

  • ACUC: Open Water or Plongeur Scuba Eau Libre
  • ANIS: One Star Junior or One Star Diver
  • ANMP: Niveau Level 1
  • AUSI: Level 2 Diver
  • BSAC: Ocean Diver or Club Diver or Sport Diver
  • CMAS: One Star Diver
  • FFESSM: Niveau I
  • FIAS: Base Avanzato
  • IDEA: Open Water
