This walk extends beyone the Great Northern Mines Walk, following the trail up to the Herberton Firetrail, veering to the right until you reach the opencut mine known as Ironclad. The track travels upwards towards the ridge (St Patrick Hill) The trail keeps predominantly to the south of the spine of this ridge. Follow the trail along a series of hills, some quite steep. You will find a sign indicating Stewart Head, which from this point is a 400 metre climb to the top, where the views are spectacular.
On your return to the sign, turn left, continuing down the trail towards the old quarries. Signage at the quarries points you back in the direction of Herberton, reaching White Street and a short walk back to the carpark.... less

Take drinking water and wear a hat and sunscreen in this tropcical environment.
During the wet season, high rainfalls can cause washouts. In the dry season, tracks may be closed due to hire fire danger.
