Josephine Falls Walking Track

Josephine Creek begins as a trickle high on the south-east side of Bartle Frere, Queensland's highest mountain. By the time it reaches Josephine Falls, the trickle has become a substantial creek, which at times turns into a raging torrent. Tumbling over granite boulders, it forms the picturesque Josephine Falls.

This track leads you through lush tropical rainforest, to viewing decks overlooking the Josephine Creek and Falls, where there are excellent photographic opportunities. Wheelchair access is available to the viewing platform at the top pool.

Walk Hints

Josephine Falls is an extremely refreshing place to visit - but it is also potentially dangerous. The rocks are exceptionally slippery, the water is cold and water levels can change suddenly and without warning.

There is a restricted access area around the top of the falls. Serious injuries and deaths have occurred here. Some walks may be closed during the wet season, between October and May and flash floods are common during this period.

Daytime temperatures and humidity can be high at any time of the year and nights can be very cool. Please carry suitable clothing to accommodate all extremes. August to September is generally the driest period, but heavy rain can fall at any time.

Best Time To Go

To ensure your visit is fun and comfortable, try to visit between April and October when the weather and track conditions are at their best.
